Meet Teacher, Designer, Artist and Customer, Special Friend
D'Andrea Mitchell

Note from Rosie: I have known D'Andrea for many, many, many years......she is a special friend, Customer, Teacher , Artist and is a Professional Long Arm Quilter. I am so impressed with The Amazing Photo Class. I took her class on June 2nd and the results were AMAZING.....

D’Andrea’s family has lived in San Diego for seven generations.  Her mother was an avid seamstress and shared her knowledge with her.  D’Andrea made her clothes throughout junior and senior high.  She became really interested in quilting when a co-worker showed her a quillow she had made.  After many quillows later, she started making quilts, quilts and more quilts.  Her husband encouraged her to enter our county fair in 1994 and she won a Blue Ribbon. She has entered annually since then and is always recognized by the judges.  She convinced her dear husband that it would be cost effective if she were able to purchase a Gammill Quilting Machine.  It was delivered in 2000.  She began offering quilting services to other quilters.  She has offered Half Log Cabin and Quilted Jacket classes here at the shop.  She has been with San Diego City College for twenty years and works as a Financial Aid Officer.  She is fond of saying that her husband, George is retired and she is just ‘tired’.  If you look at her license plate on her car, it speaks for itself…"BZ QULTR"

D'Andrea teaches the 'AMAZING PHOTO' Class and it sells out everytime. If you want to learn an exciting, innovative, extordinary, fast and easy way to create personal treasures with fabric, you must take this class we are offering here at the shop.

D’Andrea Mitchell will guide you on your way to creating a masterpiece from fabric. She says that this technique is the most magical and rewarding experience in her 15 years of quilting. She is upbeat, fun and wants you to spend the day with her making an “Amazing Quilted Photography” quilt.

The photo quilt below of Malcolm X was recently donated to the Malcolm X Branch Library here in San Diego.  The photo quilt on the right is one of her husband George, who is the recent recipient of a Congressional Medal of Honor that was bestowed to the Tuskegee Airmen.  (That’s D’Andrea in the middle up to her neck in quilts)

The other photos are of me and Vic (class sample) that is hanging the classroom and from the “Amazing Quilted Photography” class that was held on June 2nd.  New class is now scheduled for June 2008. Hurry and sign up, this class fills up very quickly!
