Check Cashing Policy - We require an California Drivers Lic. and Work and Home phone number. We also require a 'Bank Thumb Signature' (thumb print). This is for our protection. The ability to prints ID's and Checks on the computer have made it easy for people to create false documents that look very real. If the check is returned and the documents are fake, we have no recourse, however, if the check has a 'Thumb Signature' then we can file with the City Attorney in order to recover our losses. If you do not wish to provide us with a 'Thumb Signature', you can pay with cash or credit card.

Note: the number of returned checks in on the rise, or we would not have to implement these policies.

We charge $25.00 for each returned check the first time and $50.00 the second time. Our bank DOES NOT RE-DEPOSIT, so to avoid charges by the bank and then by us, be sure you have sufficient funds to cover checks written.

If you have a questions regarding this policy, please contact me at rozgonzalez@cox.net. Do not take it out on our staff, they are merely following directions and doing their job. Your cooperation if appreciated in this matter.

SOMETHING NEW!
Quilt of the Month Series
For the next few months, maybe longer, I will be offering a 'QUILT OF THE MONTH' Pattern.
MAY Quilt is ''LATTICE TOP -Friendship Path" ' from the STASH POT PIE - Scrap-O-Licious Series.
This is the 9th Quilt Pattern in this Series.
(Sorry, but if you are just signing on - we can only send you the most current pattern posted.)
This pattern combines two popular blocks, the Friendship Star and a Nine Patch variation sometimes called Thrifty. Like the frame on a picture, borders frame a quilt. And, like a picture frame, a border may be simple or elaborate. Here is a pleasing pieced border called Twisted Ribbon.
If you are not already signed up for this Monthly Series, you may
Request a PDF file of the current months pattern by E-Mailing Rosie
Write: Send me 'Lattice Top', in the Subject Line.....and if you would like to receive the quilt patterns monthly, include a note asking me to add you to the 'STASH POT PIE' list....
and I will get a new pattern out to you monthly.

What is Stippling?

Stippling is a free motion quilting technique used for creating a flattened background effect.

The denser the stippling, the more the background will recede. This is usually used to surround a larger design, like a flower, to make the design seem to stand out.

To Stipple:
1. Drop the feed dogs.
2. Place regular thread in the bobbin and either regular or monofilament thread in the needle.
3. Attach a darning foot.
4. Place the quilt under the foot and press the "needle down" button twice to bring the bobbin thread to the surface.
5. Drop the presser foot and, guiding the quilt gently, start sewing in a meandering motion trying not to stitch over previously sewn quilting lines.

Copyright for Quilters
Are you curious about copyright? What are your rights when you purchase a pattern? Do a few changes make the design yours? Could you be violating the law if you sell your quilt? At QNM, we've heard from many readers who are confused about how copyright laws apply to them and their quiltmaking. This series of three QNM articles from 1998 written by Janet Jo Smith, a quilter and practicing attorney, addresses many of the often-asked questions about copyright. - Click here

Designed and pieced by Pat herself, the project was then quilted and finished by Margrette Carr. Editor's Note: We loved the quilting stitches on the border, a chance to try out a few of those underutilized decorative stitches found on most sewing machines. Happy New Year
It’s time to get ready for our sewing and embroidery club classes.   Below is a summary of our club’s parameters.
Sewing Club – Calico Techniques
Free membership for two years if you purchased your sewing or embroidery machine at Rosie’s; $50.00 per year all others.  11 classes are scheduled for 2008.  (Signup required)  Your membership entitles you to 20% off notions in our Notions Room, except thread, books, and patterns on club dates only. The latest sewing and quilting techniques applicable to all machine types will be demonstrated each month.  Bring something to share that you have finished or a project in progress.  If you have a problem you’d like help or advice, bring that too.

For our first Sewing Club class, I am happy to announce that Rosie is providing the canvas fabric and instructions required to make a custom shopping bag free!  You can use this bag for most shopping needs.  Also, I will be covering techniques for sewing with knits.  Please sign up at the shop and/or e-mail me so we can have enough kits and membership cards ready.

Embroidery Club – Cupboard Embroidery
Free membership for two years for customers who purchased their embroidery machine at Rosie’s.  The club is open to all other embroidery machine owners for $50.00 for all six classes, or $15.00 individually.  (Signup required)  Membership entitles you to 20% off embroidery designs, stabilizers, and embroidery thread on club dates only.  Meetings are from January through June.  One of the projects to be presented is the “Infinity Quilt”.

Classes close quickly.
Sunday evening Teacher’s Reception... it’s a fabulous quilt show of work from these teachers. And the opportunity to meet them up close, have them autograph their book.
The classes cover all experience levels of quilters from beginners to advanced.
Quilt Camp in the Pines is held on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona . Staying at Mt. View Hall makes everything so much fun. If you are looking for a roommate, please let us know. You don’t need a car. There are plenty of gals who have them and are happy to make a drive by at the front door of the dorm to see who needs a ride to the Dining Hall or their classes. But, most everything is within walking distance and in the beautiful clear mountain air, a morning walk is just the way to start the day.
All of the class supply lists will be online as they are received from the teachers. But we try our best to have them all up by the end of March. Just go to the Quilt Camp in the Pines 2008 Schedule of Classes, scroll down to your class and click on "Supply List". For more info and answers to some of your questions, you might want to read All About Quilt Camp in the Pines... which is available from a link on the web page. If you have any questions, email Audrey at awquiltr@sedona.net <mailto:awquiltr@sedona.net> .
And... what else are we up to? Well... happy that you asked! When we aren’t planning Quilt Camp in the Pines or Quilting in the Desert, we are hardly staying home! We have become quite the world travelers! We are busy planning our next adventure which is a trip to Paducah, Kentucky. We had so much fun last year that we’re doing it again! We’re flying into St. Louis, motorcoach to Paducah and back to St. Louis and then home. The complete itinerary is on the web page... just follow the links. If you have any questions, send an email to Deejlynn@aol.com <mailto:Deejlynn@aol.com> . We have very limited space still available but we always keep a list just in case something opens up.
Our next cruise sails off on August 27, 2008. We will be leaving from Barcelona and cruising to Venice, Italy. Along the way, we’ll make stops in Marseille, France; Rome and Florence in Italy; Mykonos and Athens in Greece, and Istanbul and Kusadasi in Turkey! Wow! It’s on the Emerald Princess and is 12 days long. The pricing starts at $2,500 per person for an inside double.
Then, on Feb 21, 2009, we are headed "down under" once again! This time, we’re visiting the western side of Australia and on to Asia. We’ll start in Sydney and cruise to Bangkok, Thailand. We’ll make stops in Melbourne, Tasmania, Adelaide in Australia and then on to Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Angkor Wat, Cambodia before ending in Bangkok. This cruise will be on the Diamond Princess and is 20 days long. It is on the web page, www.quiltcamp.com <http://www.quiltcamp.com/> along with the pricing, dates, complete itinerary, reservation form and all the info you might need. This cruise also begins at $2,500 per person!
If you have any questions about any of the cruises or tours, just call Dee at 602-788-3408.
