| WHAT IS STIPPLING: Stippling is a free motion quilting technique used for creating a flattened background effect. The denser the stippling, the more the background will recede. This is usually used to surround a larger design, like a flower, to make the design seem to stand out. To Stipple: 1. Drop the feed dogs. 2. Place regular thread in the bobbin and either regular or monofilament thread in the needle. 3. Attach a darning foot. 4. Place the quilt under the foot and press the "needle down" button twice to bring the bobbin thread to the surface. 5. Drop the presser foot and, guiding the quilt gently, start sewing in a meandering motion trying not to stitch over previously sewn quilting lines. The Key - Practice, Practice, Practice! |
