All About Us
Let me introduce myself, my name is Rosalie (Rosie) Gonzalez and I am a native of San Diego, Calif.
Rosie's Calico Cupboard Quilt Shop has been catering to Quilters and Crafters since 1983, beginning with just 5 bolts of fabric. My husband Victor and I began our business by doing yard sales and then eventually ventured to the local 'flea market'. During this period I knew nothing about quilting, but I did have a thriving craft business.
As our fabric inventory grew, we found it impossible to continue at the 'flea market', and eventually moved into our garage. We conducted business once a week, on Saturday from 8 am until 3 pm.
In 1991 we found ourselves with so much fabric, that it was time to think about opening a store front. By this time, I was doing very little crafting and lots and lots of quilting. Everything I knew up to this point, I learned from our customers. We listened to their needs, and our goal was to fill them.
In June of 1991 we moved into our present location with 1400 bolts of fabric and 900 square feet of space. We were in heaven. We opened our doors and within a year we had outgrown our space. In 1993 We added another 900 square feet of space and proceeded to fill it up with everything that a quilter could wish for.
In 1995 we once again were bursting at the seams, and found it necessary to add another 900 square feet of space. In 1997, once again listening to what our customers wanted and needed, we added an 1100 square foot classroom and in 1998 we added another 1100 square feet of space.
And now in July 2002, we have added another 3000 square feet, bringing the total to 8000. sq. feet, filled to the brim with everything that a quilter could wish for.
We offer over 20,000 bolts of first quality 100% Cotton Prints. We purchase fabric from every major manufacture in the U.S. We receive new shipments everyday. We do mail order and we do welcome special orders.
We carry more then 600 quilting related books, and hundreds of patterns. We carry a full range of notions, batting, patterns, books, magazines, thread, computer software, quilting related gifts and much, much, more.
We do not have a catalog, as it would be outdated before we could get it back from the printer. But we are very good with descriptions and swatches help tremendously.
